Physical Education Vision Statement

Physical Education in the EYFS and Key Stage 1

Our aim is to give every child the opportunity to feel the sense of togetherness and team spirit that Physical Education offers, allowing children to develop ‘positive memories’ and self-esteem throughout their PE experience. Physical Literacy is important at our school, and it will encourage children to pursue a happy, healthy, active lifestyle through a broad and balanced curriculum whilst exploring concepts such as fair play and respect. Beginning in the Early Years Foundation Stage, gross and fine motor experiences are developed through sensory explorations. We provide opportunities for play both indoors and outdoors, enabling our children to build core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, co-ordination and agility. As children move into Key Stage 1, here at HSMP we continue to promote the development of fundamental skills by building on prior learning and continuing to challenge the application of basic movements across a range of sporting areas. Within our PE lessons and active times in the school day, we strive to improve teamwork and communication skills whilst making the most of the enriched facilities and opportunities that our school grounds and Christchurch Schools Sports Partnership has to offer.

Physical Education in Key Stage 2

Our job is to give every child the opportunity to feel the sense of togetherness, to feel that they are part of a team and develop a passion for being active, something that Physical Education offers with abundance. Children will develop ‘positive memories’ throughout their PE experience, encouraging them to embrace further opportunities for involvement, including competitions and ultimately lifelong sport participation. Basic movements (e.g. running, jumping throwing and catching) will be mastered and applied in a range of sporting scenarios, with children evaluating their own success. Physical Education lessons will build on prior learning, challenge application of basic movements across a range of sporting areas and improve teamwork skills. Fun and enjoyment will be at the forefront of staff planning and delivery.
